The Scarborough Public School District is looking for a diverse group of community members to join our Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA) Planning Team.
The team will meet three times throughout the school year (December, March and May) to engage in the following:
• Review various data and evidence pertaining to student performance and district effectiveness.
• Identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
• Discuss implications.
The Comprehensive Needs Assessment includes the district’s current demographics, performance levels, practices, and functionality. The intent of the CNA is to make evidence-based decisions for the school district while meeting necessary requirements under Elementary and Secondary Education Federal Programs and Every Student Succeeds Act. The process will make for a more purposeful and meaningful approach to leveraging state, local and federal funding, inform data driven decisions and move away from a compliance mindset.
Last spring, 18 members of our community including educators, administrators, parents, and a school board member engaged in an intensive six-week process to collect and analyze over 20 data points pertaining to student and organizational demographics, student academic performance, behavior, attendance and social-emotional indicators.
A plan, including three district goals and specific strategic actions, was created and is currently being implemented.
This year we would like to expand our team by creating this community-wide invitation to join in this very important improvement work. It is our hope that we will be able to recruit and retain a diverse group of community members that is comprised of:
• 2 students
• 2 community members
• 2 parents
• 2 district administrators.
• 2 building level leaders
• 4 to 6 teachers.
• 1 school board member
• 2 facilitators
If you are an evidence-based, critical thinker, with a growth mindset, who is dedicated to being consistently involved in this yearlong work, then please consider joining our Comprehensive Needs Assessment planning team.
We anticipate having three meetings this school year (December, March and May) to update the plan and develop goals and strategic actions for the 2019-2020 school year.
Additionally, the strengths and areas noted as needing improvement will become critical factors in our improvement strategy and fiscal year 2020 budget priorities.
You may express your interest in joining our Comprehensive Needs Assessment planning team by completing the application listed on the our website school news feed by by Nov. 16.
Selected community members will be notified by Tuesday, Nov. 20.
