TOPSHAM — Travis Nadeau’s goal midway through the second overtime lifted the Mt. Ararat High School boys soccer team to a big 1-0 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory over Bangor on Saturday at Riverside Field.

The Eagles earned their seventh straight shutout to improve to 8-1 on the season, while the visiting Rams fell to 5-1-2.

“We hadn’t beaten Bangor in my first three years here, so this is a big win for us,” said Mt. Ararat coach Jack Rioux, whose Eagles visit Morse on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Bangor set up for a throw-in, but a turnover allowed Nadeau to break out of his defensive zone. He beat a Rams defender before sending a shot past Bangor goaltender Austin Conway (five saves) with 3:48 left in the second extra frame.

Mt. Ararat goaltender James Singleton kept the Eagles alive in the first overtime. Bangor was awarded a penalty kick, but Singleton dove to his right to stop the low shot, with the Eagles clearing the ball out of danger. Singleton finished with three saves.

Freeport 3
Greely 0

Jesse Bennell scored all three goals as the Falcons (7-1-2) cruised by the Rangers (3-3-2) at Cumberland on Friday in Western Maine Conference action.

Bennell scored on a failed clearance in the first half, then converted a pair of penalty kicks in the second.

Freeport visits York on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Leavitt 2
Morse 2

Morse (3-4-3) and Leavitt (2-4-4) remained at a stalemate at Bath, with both teams putting 13 shots on goal and finishing with four corner kicks in KVAC play.

It was the second 2-2 deadlock of the season between the Shipbuilders and Hornets.

Ian Redstone put up the two goals for Leavitt, assisted by Garrett Addison on both.

Sheamus Mann had a goal for Morse, and Asa Hodgdon scored the second on a penalty kick.

Miles Bobbe was in net for Morse and Blaine Clark for the Hornets. Both goalies made 11 saves.

The Shipbuilders host Mt. Ararat on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Girls volleyball

GARDINER — Brunswick/Mt. Ararat beat Gardiner, 3-2, on Saturday, the team’s second straight five-set match in less than 24 hours.

Coming off a 3-2 loss to Greely on Friday, the Dragons defeated the Tigers with set scores of 18-25, 25-19, 11-25, 25-21, 15-12, to improve to 3-7. Brunswick/Mt. Ararat hosts Wells on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Naomi Martin led Brunswick/Mt. Ararat with seven digs, five aces and five kills, while Kathleen Trapp put away 10 kills, had six digs, two blocks and two aces. Sabrina Cooper finished with three aces, three kills and two blocks, Kassidy Dixon nine digs and four aces, and Lauren Whitlock with 17 assists, seven digs and six aces.

Against Greely, the Rangers captured a 25-17, 18-25, 25-16, 20-25, 16-14 victory.

Whitlock (13 assists, two aces, block), Trapp (nine kills, six digs, ace), Martin (four kills, two digs, ace), Dixon (seven digs, three kills, ace) and Emma Dorr (nine digs) led the Dragons.

Girls soccer

TURNER — Emily Martin scored two goals as Morse came back from a two-goal deficit for a 3-2 KVAC win over Leavitt on Friday.

Katie Blouin and Leah Maheux gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead in the first half.

In the final five minutes of the opening frame, Martin and Mae Winglass scored to send the teams to the break tied, 2-2.

Martin tallied the winning goal with 15 minutes remaining off a set piece.

Abby Sreden turned away eight shots in the Morse cage, while Shelby Varney made seven stops for Leavitt.

The 4-4-2 Shipbuilders visit Mt. Ararat on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Carrabec 2
Hyde 0

Makayla Vicneire and Sarah Olson each scored a goal to lead the Cobras to the MVC win at Bath.

Aislinn Slate made one save for Carrabec (4-5-1).

Teal McLean made 10 stops for Hyde.

Brunswick 3
Skowhegan 1

Anna Kousky tallied a pair of goals to power the Dragons (8-0-1) to a KVAC win over Skowhegan on Saturday.

Alexis Guptil chipped in a goal, with Emma Banks and Isabella Banks adding an assist each.

Jessie Parker scored for the Indians.

Brunswick held a 23-12 shot advantage. Dragon goaltender Aisley Snell turned away nine shots, while Skowhegan’s Jordan Boone had 13 saves.

Brunswick hosts Lincoln Academy on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Lisbon 0
Monmouth 4

Audrey Fletcher tabulated two goals and an assist to launch Monmouth to an MVC victory over Lisbon on Saturday.

The Mustangs galloped to a 3-0 halftime lead. Alicen Burnham contributed a goal and an assist, while Libby Clement rounded out the scoring with a tally of her own.

Monmouth was solid on defense, keeping Lisbon to just three shots over 80 minutes.

Goalie Carly Drischler made 15 saves for the Greyhounds, while Destiny Clough turned back three to earn the win in net.

Lisbon is scheduled to host Dirigo on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Field hockey

FRYEBURG — Ally Randall had an unassisted goal for Freeport with 3:30 to play in regulation and Maggie Powers answered for Fryeburg Academy from Ryan Duffy with a minute left as the Falcons and Raiders played to a 1-1 WMC stalemate on Friday.

Katelyn Rouleau had eight saves for Freeport (9-2-1), while Bailey Richardson recorded nine stops for Fryeburg Academy (8-2-1).

The Falcons host Gray-New Gloucester on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Lisbon 2
Hall-Dale 1

Sadie Hardt and Amelia Mooney tallied a goal each to lift the visiting Greyhounds to an MVC win on Friday at Farmingdale.

Avery Baker scored the lone goal for Hall-Dale (2-10).

Lisbon improved to 5-6 and hosts Spruce Mountain today at 3:30 p.m.

Morse 1
Leavitt 6

Keriah Marston collected two goals to lead Leavitt to a KVAC victory over Morse on Saturday in Turner.

The Hornets (6-5) led 4-0 at the half. Ginny Twitchell pitched in with a goal and three assists for Leavitt.

Marcey Coffin converted a pass from Vanessa St. Pierre for the only Shipbuilders (5-6) goal.

Goalies Rebecca Click and Fiona Cashman made six and two saves, respectively, for Morse. Goalie Mallory Casey stopped three to earn the win in net for Leavitt.

Morse hosts Mt. Ararat today at 4 p.m.
