BIDDEFORD — Raymond G. Demers, Sr. was born Sept. 6, 1935 in Biddeford to Rosario and Rose Eva (Manseau) Demers. He passed Sept. 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
He attended St. Joseph’s School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving eight years in the reserves from which he was honorably discharged.
On Sept. 15, 1956, he married Doris Gagne at St. Andre’s Church.
He worked as a mechanic and for local contractors, and also worked for Saco-Lowell and Maremont.
In 1975 he realized his lifelong dream of owning and operating his own business: Ray Demers & Sons Roofing and Carpentry. He loved woodworking and gardening.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, siblings: Leo Paul, Ferdinand Noel, Doris Girard, and great-grandson Kingston Hutmire.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, children Diane and husband Mike Demeule, Raynald and wife Donna Demers, Rachel Howard, and Ray Demers, Jr.; brother: Richard Demers and sister, Juliette Grondin; seven grandchildren Carrie Cyr, Jessica Hutmire, Lisa Howard, Christine Pantelas, Josh, Dylan, and Joe Demers; five great-grandchildren Meghan and Anthony Cyr, Arthur, Dylan and Tom Hutmire; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
