SACO — Madeleine Y. Goulet, 89, of Saco and a longtime resident of Biddeford, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

She was born Sept. 15, 1929 in Biddeford a daughter of Esdras and Josephine (Cloutier) Valliere.  Madeleine attended local schools and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in the Class of 1948.

On Oct. 9, 1948 she married Fernand Goulet in St. Joseph Church.  She was a teller in local banks for 25 years and had then worked 17 years at the MacArthur Library, retiring in 2011.

A lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, she was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, arts and crafts, traveling, puzzles and playing bingo. Every season she proudly displayed her collections of caroler decorations. There was always a half-finished puzzle on the dining room table waiting for visitors to add a piece or two.

She loved her trip to Switzerland, Italy and France for her 65th birthday and to Hawaii for her 75th with her son Norman and his spouse Rolf. In addition she took several stateside trips, especially to Seattle, with her son Richard and his wife Anne.

Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, on whom she doted at various family gathering, and made sure to attend many of their sports events.

Madeleine was predeceased by her husband Fernand on Oct. 16, 1970, and by all of her 11 siblings.

Surviving are two sons, Norman P. Goulet and spouse Rolf of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts and Richard C. Goulet and wife Ann of Biddeford; and two daughters Elaine P. Lariviere and husband Donald of Dayton and Nancy S. Goulet and husband Timothy of Biddeford.  She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visiting Hours will 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Hope Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
