Ensuring the Future
The flowers in my window boxes are striving mightily to generate seed to ensure that there will be another generation of petunias. Even as I pick off the dead blossoms, being careful to include the seed pods lest the plants die out prematurely, they blossom prolifically, spilling down over the fronts and sides of the boxes, then arching up gracefully, reaching for the sun. This is their goal, their destiny. If they do not produce seed the species will die out, and in their last efforts they are at their most beautiful. God has planted us all in his earthly garden, and he calls upon us to us to sow seeds of truth and love in the hearts and minds of others, and assure them that God is with them always. When we offer words of encouragement and hope to our children and raise them up in the faith and love of God, we provide them with a firm foundation on which to build their lives, thus ensuring the future of God’s kingdom here on earth. God gives the growth, and we are called to do the cultivating,, and when we do this, and do it well, we are at our best.
