WISCASSET — The Wiscasset Public Library holds its annual Bands for Books fundraiser this week, featuring the Salty Dogs, a band that covers rock ‘n’ roll from the 1950s-80s.
In its fifth year, the event raises money for the library. It’s scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3 at the Marianmade Farm, a lavender farm bordering the Sheepscot River at 155 Federal St. in Wiscasset. The event is organized by Friends of the Wiscasset Library.
The Salty Dogs will be the featured act for the second year in a row. Its members are Liz Kinsman, lead singer; Allan Swain, lead guitarist; Bert Breton, drummer; and Ray Dallaire, bass guitarist. Dancing is encouraged.
In addition to the music, the Bands for Books event includes hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a silent auction. Auctioned items include an hour-long scenic coastal airplane ride for three people, two cases of wine, a set of framed prints, several original paintings, a certificate for framing, a homemade cake and a picnic basket filled with goodies.
Prior to the event, $20 tickets can be purchased at the Wiscasset Public Library at 21 High St. in Wiscasset. They will also be available for $25 per person at the farm entrance the night of the event. All the monies collected will be used to benefit the Wiscasset Public Library and will be specifically earmarked for refurbishing the Children’s Room at the Library.
