Editor,
On July 4, I experienced a medical emergency on the beach at Fortunes Rocks. My daughter called 911.
Within minutes EMT’s arrived, ran down on the beach and gave me an EKG as I was sitting in a chair with my feet in the water. They also brought a defibrillator onto the beach.
There were about six EMT’s. I cannot express how their professionalism, sense of urgency yet calming manner made me, my family and friends feel that I was in good hands.
With a profound sense of gratitude, I am donating to the Biddeford Fire Department to express my appreciation for the invaluable and difficult work they do and the dedication they show tirelessly every day.
After being transported to Southern Maine Health Center, the emergency room doctors, nurses and techs who treated me were obviously very knowledgeable and respectful. TPA, the clot busting drug, was administered.
Within hours all my symptoms were gone, and I’m grateful and happy to say I have suffered no effects from this incident.
As residents of Biddeford, we should all be proud of our emergency response professionals and do all we can to support them. Our lives may depend on them.
