SACO — Elizabeth H. Murphy, R.N., 94, of Saco, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford.

She was born in Dexter on Feb. 25, 1924, a daughter of Henry and Josephine (Deag) Pontbriand. Elizabeth graduated from Dover High School, Class of 1942. She continued her education at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing where she met the love of her life and future husband John “Pat” while caring for his mother. They were married on Oct. 2, 1947. She transferred to Webber Hospital in Biddeford, where she served the community for 17 years.

Elizabeth loved her neighborhood. She was the matriarch of Stacy Street, the nurse, caregiver and friend to all the neighborhood families.

She enjoyed playing cards and had a great love for flowers. She was a member of Mercy Hospital Alumni.

In Betty’s memory, the family would like her family and friends to pay it forward, by telling someone in Betty’s words “I love you” either to your family, friend or a stranger.

Mrs. Murphy was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish.

She was predeceased by her husband John “Pat” Murphy on Oct. 4, 2015 and by three sisters Eleanor, Vivian and Lucille.

She is survived by three daughters Patricia Aceto and her husband David, Mary Ellen Murphy and Kathleen Gagne and her husband Danny. She is also survived by four grandchildren Stacy Forcier and her husband Brian, Aaron Williams and his wife Laurie, Nathan Gagne and his wife Erika and David Aceto Jr., six great-grandchildren Jimmy, Lily, Abigail, Max, Griffin and Ireland Rose; one nephew Robert; and one niece Anne.

The family would like to thank the staff, residents and their families at Southridge Living Center for all their care and support.

A Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Monday, July 23, 2018, at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will be private in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
