Editor,

One thing that is always said during election season is that we are “spending too much!” Everyone is so fast to say that we waste all our money funding useless programs.

Each person has their own idea of what useless is to them. But, everyone believes we are spending too much.

The fact is that we are spending too much in certain areas and too little in others. I want you to write a story about how big the U.S.’s national defense budget (600 billion) is compared to china’s (150 billion) and then compare our international affairs budget to China’s who now annually give more than the U.S.

For us to be spending four times what China is on national defense and the same in international affairs is embarrassing and holding the development of the Third World back. People believe that we do enough for the poor all around the world, but we aren’t even doing as much as China! We don’t even know where China’s foreign aid goes and they still contribute more money than we do.

I believe my fellow Americans will see these numbers and understand how overinflated and embarrassing the national security budget is. They would be happy to see that money used for good.

Investing in impoverished foreign countries helps our national security by lowering the threat from those countries as their economy grows. I urge you to write a story about how we should move some of the money from the national security budget to the international affair budget as we don’t need more bombs, we need more allies.

Thank you for taking your time to read this.
