ORR’S ISLAND
An old-style community street dance is taking place next week at Lowell’s Cove on Orr’s Island.
The event will take place from 5-11 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the site of the old Moss Plant at 27-30 Lowell’s Cove Road. The rain date is Sunday, July 29.
The event will feature live music, dancing, taste-of-the-town food and beverages and an opportunity to gather with friends and neighbors for fellowship and fun under the July full moon.
The five bands being featured include Band Cilantro, Earl Bigelow and the Motown Affair, JimmyJo & the Jumbol’Ayuhs, Scott Davis Swing Band, and Rockweed.
Food sales by local chefs and restaurants in a picnic-like setting will include hot dogs, hamburgers, chowder, pulled pork, pizza, lobster rolls, ice cream, and desserts. Wine and beer will be available from a licensed vendor.
A section of Lowell’s Cove Road will be closed to through traffic. Limited parking will be available at the Lowell’s Cove field.
Proceeds from this year’s event will be used for improvements to the Orr’s Island Cemetery and the Orr’s Island Meeting House.
Admission is $15 per adult, $5 for those age 16 and younger and $35 per family (two adults and up to four children). Cash-only ickets are available at the gates or in advance through the Cemetery Association website at orrs-island-cemetery.org/summer moon.html.
