HAMPDEN — A man was charged with murder Friday in the death of a woman with whom he shared a home in Hampden.
Maine State Police arrested Philip Clark, 55, at his home at 557 Kennebec Road, where the woman’s body was found.
An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday on the body of the woman to help police identify her and establish how she died.
Court documents say Clark and the victim both lived in the building and their apartments were connected by a door to a common hallway, News Center Maine (WCSH/WLBZ) reported.
An arrest warrant was issued for Clark after he didn’t appear in court on Thursday on criminal trespassing charges, News Center Maine reported. The complaint was made by a woman. She filed a restraining order, but it was denied.
Members of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit went to the home regarding a welfare check that was brought to their attention by the Hampden Police Department. Police say evidence response technicians remained at the home through Friday and their work is expected to continue into Saturday, according to News Center Maine.
Clark was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.
