SACO — Eleanor M. Bernier, 84, of Saco, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
She was born in Biddeford on June 16, 1933. She was a resident of Saco for over 60 years.
Eleanor was employed by Pepperell Manufacturing in Biddeford for many years. In 1968, she went to work for National Semiconductor until retiring in 1995. Most recently, she worked with her son and daughter-in-law at the Palace Diner.
One of her favorite pastimes was going dancing weekly with her friends. She worked endless hours in her flower garden which was admired by many in the neighborhood. She also had a great love of animals, especially cats, and sitting in her backyard enjoying the birds and all that nature had to offer.
Her family remembers her strong will, independence and wit. With her passing we remind ourselves that her life is to be celebrated. Although we will miss her everyday, she will forever remain in our hearts.
She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years Richard Bernier and by her companion of 25 years Walter Kelley.
She is survived by three children – Rachel Winchester and her husband Warren of Scarborough, Rita Grenier and partner Paul of Biddeford and Rick Bernier and his wife Jo of Lyman, five grandchildren Valerie Paquette and her husband Steve, Kristine Browne and her husband Jay, Bob Allen and his wife Jessica, Sandy Gibson and her husband Jason and Melissa Carter and her husband Glenn and by eight great-grandchildren.
Visiting Hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2018, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
