The Freeport High School boys tennis team, seeded second in Class B South, rolled to a 5-0 quarterfinal win over No. 7 York on Thursday.

The Falcons are slated to host No. 3 Yarmouth on Saturday (time TBA) in the semifinals.

Wes Goodwin and Clay Canterbury won easily at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Goodwin downed Dinon Hughes, 6-2, 6-1, while Canterbury swept his way to a 6-0, 6-0 win over John Welch.

Liam Gould defeated Brian Cronin of York at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3.

Doubles was much closer, with both matches going three sets. Aaron Rusiecki and Thomas Whelan won, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, against Wildcats Benjamin

Duffy and Thomas Donnelly at No. 1 doubles, while at No. 2 doubles the Freeport duo of Sullivan Smith and Liam Hornchild- Bear defeated Garrett Cronin and Dillon Brodsky, 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-1.

Freeport faced Yarmouth on May 7, downing the Clippers, 4-1.

Class C South boys

Both Lisbon and Wiscasset advanced to the quarterfinals, facing tough road tests.

The Wolverines, seeded seventh, fell to No. 2 Hall-Dale, 5- 0.

The closest match came at No. 1 singles, where Wiscasset’s Sam Strozier won the second set to get even with Hall-Dale’s MacKenzie Creamer, who went on to win the match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Hall-Dale received wins from Isaac Lawrence (No. 2 singles over Jesse Perkins), Eli Spahn (No. 3 singles over Benjamin Masten), and Neil Stottler and Ian McNaughton (No. 1 doubles over Trinin Jeffrey and Dylan Orr).

The Wolverines forfeited at No. 2 doubles and finished their season with a 3-8 record.

Lisbon struggled against top-ranked Waynflete, falling 5-0. The Flyers won each set by 6-0 scores.

Playing for the Greyhounds (1-10) were Alex Wells, Gerrit Smith, Ben James, Zach Barry, Dustin Verrill, Dan Poulin and Christian Richter.

Softball

FARMINGDALE — Lisbon used a four-run fourth inning to take control en route to a 10-0 Mountain Valley Conference win over Hall-Dale on Wednesday.
