SACO — The No. 7 Thornton Academy girls tennis team cruised to an opening round win over No. 10 Marshwood as the Golden Trojans picked up a 5-0 sweep over the Hawks in the Class A South playoffs on Tuesday.
Emma Nassif, Cordelia Perry and Brianna Paul all earned singles wins for Thornton Academy, which will face No. 2 Gorham in the Class A South quarterfinals on Thursday.
The team of Vivian Reyes and Claudia Martin Olea picked up a win at first doubles for TA, which got a win from Lili Brezoczki and Ky Nguyen at second doubles.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Biddeford 23, Westbrook 2
The Tigers would jump out to a 12-1 halftime lead as they cruised to their ninth win of the season on Tuesday.
Serena Speight led Biddeford (9-2) with six goals and two assists. Paige Laverriere, Megan Mourmouras and Peyton McKeown all scored three times in the win.
The Tigers would also get two goals each from Brooke Reissfelder, Azure Illiano and Hailey Allen.
Biddeford’s Ella McKenzie stopped eight shots in the cage.
Sanford 14, Deering 6
The Spartans picked up their first win of the season thanks to a five-goal performance from Valentina Drown on Thursday.
Jada Kimball, Lauren Lapierre and Catherine Works scored two goals each for Sanford (1-10).
Kelli Ames scored once and goalie Kassidy Plante stopped five shots for Sanford.
BASEBALL
Thornton Academy 12, Deering 3
Luke Chessie and Cam Seymour smacked back-to-back triples as Thornton Academy (10-6) scored three times in the fifth inning to take the lead for good at Hadlock Field.
Kolby Lambert had three hits for TA, which got a pair of doubles from Brogan Searle-Belanger. Seymour and Chessie also had two hits in the win.
Searle-Belanger picked up the win on the mound, while Chessie tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts to record the save.
Biddeford 10, Falmouth 5
The Tigers would get three hits apiece from Evan Paquette and Kurtis Edgerton as they picked up the road win on Tuesday.
Logan Magnant added a triple and a double in the win for Biddeford, which closes out the regular season with an 11-5 record.
