LISBON

Mallory Fairbanks drove in five runs to power the Lisbon High School softball team to a 17-1 Mountain Valley Conference win over Telstar on Friday.

The Greyhounds scored early and often, putting four runs in the first, seven in the second, four more in the third and two in the fourth to bring on the mercy rule.

Fairbanks was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Kiley Merritt had a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Abby Miner three RBIs.

The Ramblers erased a 5-0 deficit, only to fall short as the Greyhounds held on for the MVC victory on Monday.

Lisbon jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, but Winthrop scored four unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to 5-4.

The Greyhounds (11-4) tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth and held on for the victory.

Giana Russo and Ivy Morris each had three hits, while Merritt had two with a pair of RBIs in the 16-hit attack. Miner took the victory on the bump, striking out five in the win.

Lisbon travels to Hall-Dale Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game.

In the first game of an East-West Conference doubleheader on Friday, the Bobcats rolled to a mercy-rule win over the Cavaliers.

Caitlin Kendrick struck out nine, walked one and permitted just five hits for the mound win.

Kendrick, Leah Wescott and Bryannah Shea each pounded out three hits, while Sydney Underhill- Tilton singled, tripled and drove in three runs. Bryanne Lancaster had three singles and four RBIs, while Haley Chapman and Paige Lebel each singled twice.

Kendrick drove in four runs off of three singles as the Bobcats swept to improve to 13-1.

Richmond visits Temple today at 4 p.m.

Underhill-Tilton launched a home run, singled and drove in three runs, with Shea and Lancaster adding two hits and two RBIs each.

Lancaster was solid on the mound on four strikeouts, one walk and five hits.

Gaby McGuire had four singles and three RBIs to lead the Rams to the KVAC A win in Topsham on Friday.

Sam Melland added three singles and two RBIs for Cony (4-11), while Brooklyn Belanger added a double, a single and two RBIs.

Zoe Stilphen and Jaden Lohr doubled for Mt. Ararat, which fell to 6-9 and hosts Brunswick today at 4:15 p.m.

Baseball

TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat recovered from an early two-run deficit en route to a 9-3 KVAC victory over Cony on Friday.

The Eagles have won seven straight contests heading into today’s home “Battle of the Bridge” matchup with Brunswick (4:30 p.m.).

Mt. Ararat scored four runs in the third and put the game away with five more in the fifth.

Hunter Lohr had three singles in the win, while Nick Merrill chipped in a double and a single.

Cony fell to 4-11.

Lisbon pounded out 15 hits on its way to an MVC win on Friday

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, the Greyhounds scored five runs on six hits to take a 5-1 lead.

After Telstar scored another run in the top of the fourth inning, the home team plate plated two more runs to increase their lead to 7-2.

The ’Hounds tacked on five more runs in their final two at-bats to pull away for the victory.

WMC track

NAPLES — The Western Maine Conference Championships were held at Lake Region High School on Saturday, with Freeport in action.

The Falcon girls finished seventh with 65 points. Poland topped the field, scoring 177 points to slip past runner-up Wells (152).

In the boys meet, Freeport took sixth with 78 points, while York easily ran away with the title with 227 points.

For Freeport, Joe Ashby captured first in the 800- meter run. Teammate Nicholas Mitch won the 400, while the 4 x 400 relay team was tops. Martin Horne (1,600) and Griffin Agnese (300 hurdles) earned second, while picking up third place for the Freeport boys were Mitch (110 hurdles), Alex Les (400), Horne (3,200) and Alex Helie (shot put).

The lone Falcon girl to capture a title was Lilly Horne, who won the 1,600 in 5:13.52. Horne also placed third in both the 800 and 3,200. Catriona Gould was second in the 100, while Tara Magliaccio was second in the 400.

Freeport heads to Foxcroft Academy on Saturday for the State Class B Championships.
