BRUNSWICK

In what has become an annual highlight, St. John’s Catholic School students will form a human chain to donate food to the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program facility.

The event, set for 8 a.m. Thursday, May 31, will see St. John’s students stand side by side to create a line from the school at 37 Pleasant St. to MCHPP at 84 Union St.

The “ human chain” will pass over 500 pounds of food and personal care items, donated by members of the St. John’s community, from the school to the facility.

“This is both a service learning project for the students and a chance for us to give to the community,” said St. John’s Principal Timothy Forti in a prepared statement. “It’s a wonderful tradition.”

Students have led a food drive at the school for the past two weeks to benefit the MCHPP, which provides food for hundreds of local families through a food bank, food pantry, and soup kitchen.

“The human chain is a reflection of the students’ collective enthusiasm to give back to a community that has given them so much while helping our neighbors in need,” said Forti. “ Our students have grateful hearts and we are serving God when we serve one another.”
