Spectrum is no better a cable company than Time Warner. In fact, I got the bait and switch. Let me explain.

When Spectrum took over in Saco, I gave it a chance and signed up for their initial promotional price (thinking I could downgrade the following year when the price jumped).

At the time I had very basic TV and maybe 10 megabits per second internet. I don’t need much for internet speed; I’m not an online gamer or large-content user. I do work from home often, and it worked just fine. I thought I’d enjoy a year of extra channels for the same money.

As expected, the price jumped up after a year, so I went into the office to downgrade. Then I found out I got the bait and switch. I was told that I have their most “basic” service and there is nothing lower.

They were very proud of their 100 Mbps minimum internet speed. “But I don’t need nor want 100 Mbps,” I told them. This was sort of incomprehensible to both of the people I talked to. So I’m told I’m stuck with a $100-plus monthly cable bill. Total BS!

Now it’s not that I cannot afford it – I can – but what about the guy who cannot? If they listened to the consumer as well as their advertisements would lead you to believe, they would offer a lower-cost package.

Time to shop around.
