LYNN, Mass. — Oakley E. “Oakie” Frye, age 90 of Lynn, Massachusetts, passed away at Beverly Hospital on Monday, May 7, 2018. 

He was born in Lynn on Feb. 28, 1928, the son of the late, Charles F. and Helen (Clark) Frye Simmonian. He was raised and educated in Lynn.  Oakie left school early to enlist in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged. 

Oakie had worked as both a roofer and a licensed arborist in the Greater Lynn Area for many years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed going hunting as a younger man. He liked to work with his hands and was a talented carpenter in his own right. He enjoyed taking road trips with his family, especially to Florida and to the Sturgis Bike Week. Oakie could also cook and was known to make a great tomato sauce. Other hobbies included raising animals while living in West Newfield, Maine, gardening and playing cribbage with his family and friends. 

Oakie was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Norma (Wise) Frye in 2003. He is survived by his children; Lynn A. Granese and husband, Joseph of Lynn, Luke A. Frye and wife, Melissa of Lynn, Scott A. Frye and wife, Robin of Lynn, Penny S. Pendexter and husband, Arthur of Berwick, Maine and Billie-Jo Picone and husband, Armando “Tony” of West Newfield, Maine. His sisters; Gloria Frye and Margaret Spinnelli. His grandchildren; Scott Frye II, Lia Granese, Spring Frye, Oakley Frye, Krissi Picone, Richard Pendexter, Charles Pendexter, Courtney Picone, Matthew Frye and Tyler Frye. His step-grandsons, Richard and Shawn. Four great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter also survive him.  Oakie was also predeceased by his son, Buck Frye, his brother, Charles Frye, his sisters; Erna Hudson, Mabel Howard, Cora Landry and Clair Mulcahy and his grandsons; Raymond Paradis III and Luke Pendexter.

Friends and family are invited to attend Mr. Frye’s visitation on Monday, May 14, 2018, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, MA 01904. His funeral service will follow the visiting at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to attend Mr. Frye’s burial on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. Please meet at the funeral home at 9 a.m. to pay last respects and form the funeral procession.
