Troopers on Tuesday put out the word they were looking for the public’s help in locating Vincent Cole, whom they described as a violent felon.
This morning, less than 24 hours later, Cole turned himself in to Buxton Police.
No further information was immediately available.
Cole, 28, is wanted on a warrant charging elevated aggravated assault issued Tuesday from York County Superior Court in connection with a 2017 incident.
In a social media statement, Maine State Police said bail on that warrant is set at $50,000 cash. As well, Cole is wanted on two warrants for allegedly violating conditions of his prior release. Police on Tuesday said say he may be carrying a firearm.
Maine State Police attempted to help the Office of Child and Family Services of Maine Department of Health and Human Services in locating Cole and his girlfriend, Natasha West, for a family safety assessment on Sunday. Authorities say they went to the couple’s home in Hollis, but the couple and their 2- year-old daughter weren’t there. Police on Tuesday said they believed Cole, West and their daughter were traveling together.
In August, Cole was charged with four misdemeanors including refusal to submit to arrest, driving to endanger, failure to stop for an officer and violating condition of release after he allegedly fled from York County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Aug. 13.
The sheriff’s office had also charged Cole with endangering the welfare of a child and operating after suspension, but those charges did not move forward at a court appearance two days later. The status of those charges was not available Tuesday afternoon
In a news release, that York County Sheriff William King issued following the Aug. 13 incident, he said Cole had allegedly been involved in a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend and wasn’t at the Waterboro home where they were living when deputies arrived that night.
When deputies later attempted to stop his vehicle, Cole allegedly sped up and took a series of abrupt turns. King said Cole opened his door and jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran into the house with deputies in close pursuit. Cole then allegedly advanced toward a deputy who drew his stun gun and ordered Cole to submit. Instead, he allegedly grabbed a small child and used her as a shield, the sheriff said in the news release issued at the time.
The lawyer representing Cole at his initial hearing said Cole had left the home to cool off, knew he was going to jail and so he tried to hug his daughter.
Last July, Cole was charged with elevated aggravated assault and two other assault charges after he allegedly stabbed a man with a knife and hit others with an aluminum baseball bat after being asked to leave a party.
