WESTBROOK — The Biddeford softball team opened its season with an 8-4 victory over Westbrook on Thursday afternoon at Westbrook High School.

The Tigers trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but answered with four runs in the second. Maddy Dineen, Olivia Whittaker, Renee Dutremble and Brook Davis each scored a run in the inning.

Biddeford made it 6-1 in fourth as Anna Lavigne doubled and scored on an RBI single by Whittaker. She would later score on an infield out.

Westbrook scored three in the bottom half of the fourth to make it a 6-4 game.

The Lady Tigers would score two more runs in the sixth on a Chantel Perreault RBI double and a Taylor Wildes RBI single.

Lexi Matteau pitched seven innings for the win. She allowed five hits and struck out six.

Whittaker (three hits), Matteau, Perreault and Harmonie Coolbroth were repeat hitters for the Tigers. Brook Davis was walked 3 times.

Tigers play Thornton Academy on Saturday at 11a.m. at William Doran Field in Biddeford.

Maine Girls Academy 10, Sanford 5

The Lions would top Sanford 10-5 in six innings on Thursday afternoon, despite being out hit by the Spartans.

Tori Lawrence, Marli Wilson and Molly Boissoneault scored for Sanford while Ruby LaChance and Grace Curley added homeruns in the loss.

Curley took the loss for Sanford, and struck out six batters.
