PORTLAND — Garrett Hampson broke a 4-4 tie with an RBI single in the top of the seventh as the Hartford Yard Goats (4-8) emerged victorious by a final score of 9-4 over the Sea Dogs (4-7) on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.
The game marked the 25th anniversary of the first ever Sea Dogs home game at Hadlock played on April 18th, 1994.
Hampson’s single came off of Yankory Pimentel (L, 0-1) and scored Wes Rogers, who had singled to lead off the inning and stolen a base.
Hampson struck again in the eighth and padded the Hartford lead with a two-run single off of Pimentel to make it 7-4 ‘Goats. Bobby Werenes hit a two-run double off of Adam Lau in the ninth to extend the lead to 9-4. Hartford scored a run in each of the final six innings.
Scott Griggs (W, 1-0) was the winning pitcher and worked two scoreless innings in relief of Yard Goats’ starter Jack Wynkoop (5 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 SO).
Kevin McAvoy (ND) allowed four earned runs on seven hits in six innings. McAvoy walked three and fanned four.
