I am a resident of Maine, and I believe in both common-sense gun regulation and the rights of Americans to bear arms as set out by the entire Second Amendment.

Right now, our children are both the victims of gun violence and the emerging leaders of the drive for a change in our attitudes and regulations of firearms.

On Friday, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine massacre, there is a national day of action. Because of the school vacation schedule here in Maine, a school walkout is not a possibility. So, the Maine Gun Safety Coalition is planning a Walk-In Against Gun Violence.

They are inviting all high school and college students to come to Hannaford Hall on the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus. The Walk-In runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes lunch. It is free to all students! The coalition’s website is mainegunsafety.org.

I support this and all civil discussions on solving the problem of gun violence in America.
