CUMBERLAND — Aside from one contested race, enthusiasts of hard-fought elections may find themselves disappointed in Cumberland and North Yarmouth this spring.

Two people are running for the At-Large seat on the Town Council in Cumberland, where nomination papers were due back Tuesday. The other two council seats are uncontested.

All North Yarmouth candidates were unopposed after the April 12 deadline to submit nomination papers.

Cumberland

In order to secure another at-large term on the Town Council, Shirley Storey-King of Shirley Lane must fend off a challenge from Christina Mitchell of Shady Run Lane.

Meanwhile, Town Councilors Ron Copp (West Cumberland) and George Turner (Cumberland Foreside) were both unopposed in their re-election bids. They, like Storey-King, have each served 12 years on the panel.

Vickie Bell and Karen Campbell, who both represent Cumberland on the SAD 51 board, are not running again. Margo Harrington and Ann Kerr were running unopposed for those two seats.

North Yarmouth

In North Yarmouth, former Selectman and School Administrative District 51 board member Jim Moulton is running for the year remaining in Peter Lacy’s term on the Select Board, which Lacy vacated last December when he moved to Cumberland.

With Jeanne Chadbourne not seeking re-election, Bill Whitten is unopposed for a three-year term to replace her. Whitten must leave the Budget Committee in order to serve on the Select Board, Town Manager Rosemary Roy said Tuesday.

Kate Perrin is running unopposed for a second, three-year term on the SAD 51 Board of Directors, as is Mark Heath for a five-year Cemetery Commission term, and Steve Gorden for another three-year stint as Yarmouth Water District trustee.

Sandra Falsey is the only candidate for one of a trio of three-year Budget Committee seats, two of which have been vacant. With Whitten leaving the committee, three seats are left open on the seven-person panel.

Election Day is June 12.
