WATERVILLE — The Messalonskee softball team scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to post a come-from-behind 8-6 win over Oxford Hills in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A season opener for both teams at Colby College.
Makayla Wilson doubled and singled for Messalonskee (1-0) in the win, with Leah Smith and Sarah Labbe also collecting a pair of hits. Katelyn Douglas pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory.
Ashley Childs and Madison Starbird each had two hits for Oxford Hills (0-1).
BASEBALL
OXFORD HILLS 4, MESSALONSKEE 3: The Vikings rallied after falling behind 3-0 in the first inning to post the season-opening KVAC A win at Colby College.
Oxford Hills (1-0) managed only four hits off four different Messalonskee pitchers but took advantage of three Eagle errors in the victory.
Percey Carey had three hits, including a triple, with two runs batted in for Messalonskee (0-1). Tyler Lewis and Dylan Cunningham each had two singles.
BREWER 10, GARDINER 3: The Witches pounded out 10 hits on their way to the KVAC victory in Orono.
Kobe Rogerson had a home run and two singles for Brewer (1-0) while Andrew Kiley and Josiah Cyr had two singles apiece. Cyr earned the win on the mound.
Logan Porter took the loss for Gardiner (0-1).
