SULTANS OF STRING
Spring is blooming with a variety of entertainment next weekend at the Chocolate Church.
Kicking off events will be American singer-songwriter Jonathan Edwards, who will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20. His repertoire includes classics such as “Honky Tonk Stardust Cowboy,” “Sometimes,” “One Day Closer,” “Don’t Cry Blue,” “Emma,” “Everybody Knows Her,” “Athens County” and “Shanty.” Edwards is also known for “Sunshine (Go Away Today),” a proclamation of protest and independence that resonated with frustrated and angry young men and women when it was first released in 1971.

On Saturday, April 21, the Earth, Seas & Air show by Canadian musician Chris McKhool offers family entertainment for children of all ages at the 2 p.m. event. This award-winning show is interactive and takes the audience beyond the three Rs of ecology — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — to a new level of understanding of our global connection to forests, air, water, and animals.
Tickets are $15, and children younger than age 12 are $10.
McKhool pulls double duty Saturday, leading the Sultans of String for a 7:30 p.m. concert April 21. The three-time JUNO nominees — the equivalent of the Grammy Awards in Canada — perform a range of Celtic reels, Flamenco,
Gypsy-jazz, Arabic, and Cuban rhythms. McKhool’s 5-string violin combines with founder Kevin Laliberté’s guitar and Drew Birston on bass.
Tickets are $18 advance and $22 at the door.
