SACO — Three Thornton Academy athletes signed their National Letters of Intent to play at the collegiate level on Wednesday afternoon at the Linnell Gymnasium at TA.

Garret Lynn signed to play football for Division I Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Connecticut, while Jordan Laplume will be playing women’s golf at DII Merrimack in North Andover, Massachusetts. Kolby Lambert also signed to play DII baseball for Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire.

Lynn established himself as one of the elite lineman on both sides of the ball in the state, despite missing significant time early in his career due to knee injuries. Last season, Lynn was named to the Southwestern Maine Activities Association’s first team as an offensive lineman, and the SMAA second team for his work on the defensiv side.

Lynn feels healthy and ready to take the next step to play at the DI level.

“I’ve been rehabbing my knees pretty well so I’m feeling confident. At this point it’s just about working hard,” said Lynn, who will also be joining linemate Jack Webb who recently signed to play at Sacred Heart as well. “It’ll be fun. We know each other pretty well so it’ll be nice to have a familiar face down there.”

Laplume emerged as one of the top golfers in TA history, taking over the top spot in the lineup during her last two years and being named captain her senior campaign. Laplume helped the Trojans win an SMAA title her freshman year and a state title her sophomore year. Laplume also finished in the top-five in the state single tournament all four years and was second her final two outings.

Considering the resume she built at TA, Laplume feels confident heading to Merrimack.

“I’m very confident. I am of course very nervous but I’ll have a really good team behind my back, a really good coach to support me and a really good family to support me as well,” said Laplume.

Laplume looks forward to taking the next step in her golf career as a Warrior but will miss the TA community.

“(I’ll) miss (Coach Jeff Camire) and the team and all of Saco … I love all of it,” said Laplume.

Lambert spent the last three seasons pitching and playing outfield for Bonny Eagle. Last season he earned All-Conference Honors and was second in the SMAA Pitcher of the Year voting. He will finish his high school career as a Trojan and feels that the move will help him prepare for college ball.

“I think it will help me a lot. That aspect of coming to a new school, learning new subjects and meeting new people. I want to have better stats this year in baseball, better academics and I want to get better grades than last year,” said Lambert.

Lambert was also impressed with the Franklin Pierce campus, and already hit it off with head coach Mike Chambers.

“I liked the campus, the coach is really friendly. The baseball team is really good and they have really good academics. The school isn’t that big, it’s pretty small which is better for me to learn and play (rather) than at a bigger school.”
