WARREN — A 57-year-old inmate at the Maine State Prison died Sunday morning, but there is nothing to indicate anything suspicious, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Gregory E. Leeman was found unresponsive in his cell and died at the prison in Warren, according to department spokesman Stephen McCausland. An autopsy will be done.
The Maine Department of Corrections issued a statement Sunday morning saying that Leeman died about 6:35 a.m.
Consistent with the Corrections Department’s policy and Maine Attorney General’s Office protocols, the Maine State Police and medical examiner were notified.
Leeman was serving multiple sentences, including a three-year sentence for assault on an officer that he began serving on Oct. 20, 2015.
He was also serving a 10-year sentence (with all but two years suspended, and four years of probation) for gross sexual assault in Cumberland County. He began serving that sentence on May 26, 2005.
He was scheduled to be released in January 2019.
