Biddeford hockey was put back on the map, and one of the biggest reasons why was senior captain Logan Magnant.
Magnant was among the state’s most efficient players on both ends of the ice, and proved to be an elite scorer and set up man. He finished the season with 27 points, including nine goals and 18 assists.
The Tigers boasted an experienced roster heading into the season, and Magnant was confident in his team’s chances to make noise from the early going.
“We knew we had to do everything in our power to change the program around. We had the team to go as far as we went and that was the goal the whole season. We came in every day with 110 percent and we knew exactly what we had to do,” said Magnant. “It was an all-around fun year. I enjoyed everything about the 24 brothers that I made throughout the season. It made me want to work (hard) every day.”
Magnant was well-known in the Maine hockey community prior to his senior year, but rose to the top of the ranks with his successful regular season and clutch performances in the postseason. Determination was key, according to Magnant.
“It’s an honor to be named (Journal Tribune) MVP because I know how much work I put into hockey. I’ve always wanted to be successful so that’s why I always give it my all and never give up. That’s what I believe it takes to be an MVP,” said Magnant.
He is also happy to add to the Magnant name, which has produced some of Biddeford’s best athletes.
“We’re a strong, big family and we’re very athletic. We never give up and it’s great to say that I was able to accomplish what I accomplished,” said Magnant.
With his high school tenure coming to a close, Magnant is excited for the future and is thankful for the memories he made with the Tigers, especially in the historic 2017-18 season.
“(I’ll miss) the program in general. Hockey is definitely my favorite sport and this senior year just made everything that much better. Achieving what we did this season was a great feeling.”
