Kiara Brown — author, illustrator and publisher of “Princess Pretend and the Not Knight” — had Skype sessions with students Tuesday and Wednesday. Her story takes readers on a journey that motivates them to be themselves and appreciate their uniqueness.
Other events that took place during the week included dress as a favorite book character, teacher’s door decorating, Reader’s Theatre performances, a Reader’s Family Night, guest readers throughout the day, peer reading, and more.
Read Across America, which takes place annually on or near Dr. Suess’s birthday, is aimed at motivating students to get excited about reading. Founded by the National Education Association in 1998, it is the nation’s largest reading event. Studies show that children who are successful readers do better in school and are more likely to advance with later achievements.
