In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the Portland Symphony Orchestra will perform Ravel’s “Boléro” — and other works — in two shows leading up to the holiday.
The PSO, led by Music Director Robert Moody, will offer two performances of a classical concert featuring a mix of contemporary and classical composers’ works. The concerts will take place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, and at 7: 30 p. m. Tuesday, Feb. 13; both shows will be at Merrill Auditorium, located at 20 Myrtle St. in Portland.
The program will feature “Academic Festival Overture” by Johannes Brahms, “ Violin Concerto,” by Samuel Barber, “Alternative Energy,” by Mason Bates and “Boléro” by Maurice
Ravel.
There also will be a concert conversation an hour and 15 minutes prior to the concert, and a post-concert Q&A with artists on stage.
This concert will be heard on Maine Public (MPBN) radio on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Founded in 1923, the Portland Symphony Orchestra is the largest performing arts organization in Maine and is made up of more than 80 professional musicians.
