SACO — Elizabeth (Bonang) Tardif, author, and the first female lifeguard in the State of Maine to patrol the ocean shores. 

Born July 11, 1949 to the parents of Raymond and Eleanor (Fournier) Bonang. Elizabeth grew up in Saco graduating from Thornton Academy in 1967. After graduation Elizabeth moved to Boston, Massachusetts to pursue a career in modeling and acting, and graduated from Patricia Stevens Career and Finishing School Boston, Massachusetts.

Elizabeth taught modeling courses for many years at several Boston modeling agencies, and was Director for Jean McCall’s Career and Finishing School in Somerville, Massachusetts. While in Boston, Elizabeth also attended Northeastern University.

Elizabeth returned to her beloved state of Maine in 1984. She was employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine, now Anthem Inc. for 20 years. While at Anthem, Elizabeth worked in the government programs division for AdminaStar Federal as a Senior Ethics and Compliance Analyst for Medicare East, where she was responsible for Medicare Compliance in their Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire locations. She left Anthem’s Medicare Program to accept a position at MaineHealth in Audit & Compliance Services until her retirement in 2016. Elizabeth began a writing career late in life writing children’s books.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her mother Eleanor Bonang and by her brother Dwight Bonang.

She is survived by her husband Fred; her father Raymond Bonang of Saco; her brother Jim Bonang and his partner Jody Pontrello; and by her sister Karen Palladino and her husband William of Shapleigh.

A Celebration of Her Life will be in the spring at Laurel Hill Cemetery Chapel.
