The land search for a West Bath man who was last seen Friday night has been suspended, according to the Maine Warden Service.
Edward “Ted” Berrett, 70, of 63 Beaver Brook Road, was reported missing by his family Sunday afternoon.
“The Maine Warden Service placed considerable search resources in all probable areas over the last three days,” the agency said in a statement Tuesday night. “The search included an area stretching two miles from the point Berrett was last seen and encompassed a total area of five square miles. Additional water areas will likely be searched in the future depending upon weather conditions.”
Beginning at daybreak Tuesday, 50 searchers continued to look for Berrett.
Searchers located a belt and a pair of shoes on Hill Road, about a quarter mile from his home, said John MacDonald, spokesman for the warden service.
He said the articles of clothing were found on the side of the road, which intersects with Beaver Brook Road, and are believed to be Berrett’s, but that had not been confirmed.
Berrett lives alone, is 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 220 pounds, and has blue eyes and blondish-white hair. He was last seen wearing khaki pants. It is possible he was not wearing a shirt or jacket.
MacDonald said there has been no activity on Berrett’s bank accounts or charge cards.
Tuesday’s search resources included a warden service aircraft, game wardens and canine teams, Maine Marine Patrol officers with watercraft, the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Search and Rescue Dog teams, members of the Maine Association of Search and Rescue, a drone aircraft from York County EMA and members of West Bath Fire Department.
