Marston Lovell, a former city councilor and current county commissioner, was elected Saco mayor Tuesday with 2,874 votes. Former Mayor Donald Pilon received 2,021.
Saco residents also elected city councilors and authorized nearly $11.75 million on infrastructure projects.
Nine candidates competed for four open seats on the City Council. Councilors Roger Gay of Ward 2, Alan Minthorn of Ward 5 and Nathan Johnston of Ward 7 were unopposed.
Marshall Archer beat Matthew DiCianni, 451-244, to represent Ward 1. Councilor William Doyle of Ward 3 held off a challenge from Barbara Colman, 362-206. In Ward 4, Lynn Copeland finished beat Michael Burman 599-416. Micah Smart, with 278 votes, won a three-way race against Theodore Sirois, 204, and Jason Boucher, 154 votes, to represent Ward 6.
Voters approved Question 1 by a margin of 3,666 to 1,556, allowing the city to spend $2 million on improvements to city facilities, roads, drainage and other infrastructure.
They also narrowly approved question Question 2, which authorizes the city to borrow up to $7.25 million to build a new public works facility on Industrial Park Road. The vote was 2,680 to 2,506.
Residents also voted 3,190-2,014 to allow the city to borrow $2.5 million for Route 1 sewer extensions, sidewalks and pedestrian and traffic signal improvements.
