A fire at 42 Cottage St. in Sanford destroyed the third floor of an apartment building and likely caused water damage on the first and second floors, a fire official said.

There were no injuries reported and no tally for how many people might have been displaced, Capt. Dwight Emmons said. The call was reported at 3:15 p.m. and the Red Cross had been notified, Emmons said.

The fire was about a half-mile from the fire on Island Avenue that destroyed three houses and damaged three others Thursday. Though they were unrelated, Emmons said it had been a “pretty eventful” couple of days.
