The top three teams in the Journal Tribune coverage area rolled to wins last weekend as Kennebunk and Wells remained undefeated and Thornton Academy bounced back from a Week 5 loss to Bonny Eagle and improved to 5-1.
While the three teams listed above cruised to wins last week, the Biddeford Tigers took down Skowhegan in overtime in a game that truly was an instant classic.
Massabesic, Old Orchard Beach and Sanford all fell in Week 5 and will look to rebound this weekend.
1. Kennebunk
(6-0, vs. Marshwood on Saturday)
The top spot in the Class B South playoffs will be on the line this weekend when the Rams host powerhouse Marshwood in a battle of unbeaten teams. If the Rams can pick up the win, they will further solidify their position as the favorite to win the Gold Ball.
2. Wells
(6-0, vs. Lisbon/St. Dom’s)
Another battle of undefeated teams will take place tonight when the Warriors welcome in the Greyhounds. While they are both 6-0, Wells will be the clear favorite heading into tonight’s contest.
3. Thornton Academy
(5-1, vs. S. Portland on Saturday)
After dropping a lopsided game to Bonny Eagle two weeks ago, the Golden Trojans cruised past Oxford Hills last week. Look for TA to put up a ton of points this weekend against a 3-3 South Portland team.
4. Biddeford
(4-2, at Noble tonight)
The Tigers won a 56-54 shootout against Skowhegan last week. Biddeford will look to put up those kind of points again tonight, but the Tigers will certainly be looking for a better game from their defense.
5. Old Orchard Beach
(3-3, vs. Spruce Mountain tonight)
The Seagulls dropped a 22-6 decision to Mountain Valley last week, but they were without a key offensive starter. If OOB is back at full strength tonight, the Gulls should bounce back and pick up win No. 4.
6. Sanford
(3-3, at Cheverus on Saturday)
The Spartans had won three straight games until falling to South Portland last week. Sanford will look to bounce back against 3-3 Cheverus on Saturday.
7. Massabesic
(0-6, at Bangor on Saturday)
The Mustangs have struggled so far this season as they have played a tough schedule through the first six weeks. They will have a great chance to get in the win column against winless Bangor.
