PISCATAQUIS COUNTY — A 28-year-old Kennebunkport woman is recovering from a shotgun wound to her foot she sustained while hunting partridge Monday in northern Piscataquis County.

Kayla Corey was injured while she was in the process of loading her .410 bolt action shotgun with bird shot. The firearm discharged and the shot struck her in her right foot, said Maine Warden Service Corporal John MacDonald.

Corey was hunting partridge on Ragmuff Road, which is in Township 4, Range 14, which is part of the state’s Unorganized Territory, when the mishap took place.

She was was taken by her hunting party to Millinocket Regional Hospital where she was treated and interviewed by game wardens, MacDonald said.

Corey was then taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for further treatment. Game wardens continue to investigate the hunting incident.

This latest hunting related incident is Maine’s fifth this year, said MacDonald.
