Savory Maine is exhibiting Mark Lazzari’s landscape paintings through Nov. 6. The public is invited to a reception to meet the artist on Oct. 6 from 3-5 p.m. Savory Maine will provide finger foods and wine and beer will be available.
Lazzari is self-taught, beginning to paint when he moved to Damariscotta in 1989. His major influences are American and European impressionists, and he has benefited artistically from his friendship with local artists, especially pastelist Kathleen Galligan, he said.
Light is the force behind Lazzari’s paintings, he said.
“I love to paint outdoors” he said. “I am drawn to open places — marshes, meadows, blueberry barrens, the desert and edge of the sea.”
Lazzari has exhibited his work in solo shows in Damariscotta, Portland, Wiscasset and Camden, as well as in numerous group exhibitions and juried shows. His work has been shown at the Bayview Galleries in Camden and Portland, Round Top Center for the Arts in Damariscotta, Davidson and Daughters gallery in Portland, Gallery at Chase Hill in Kennebunkport, Saturday Cove Gallery in Northport, Goldsmith Gallery in Boothbay Harbor, Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, Pemaquid group of Artists, Boothbay Region Art Foundation and Courthouse Gallery Fine Art in Ellsworth. Lazzari’s work is found in many private and several corporate collections.
