SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants plan to expand the protective netting behind home plate going into next year.

Spokeswoman Staci Slaughter says more safety netting is in the works and the club is “in the process of figuring out the engineering aspects.”

The Mariners, Reds, Rockies and Padres announced last week that they would expand netting for the 2018 season after a young girl was injured by a foul ball at Yankee Stadium. Cincinnati and San Diego plan to extend the netting to the ends of each dugout.

The line drive off the bat of Yankees slugger Todd Frazier last Wednesday hit the girl in the face in less than a second.

RAYS: Wilson Ramos started his 55th game at catcher, triggering a rise in his salary next year from $8.5 million to $10.5 million as long as he doesn’t finish the season on the disabled list because of a right knee injury. If he starts the five remaining games, his salary would rise by an additional $250,000.

NATIONALS: The Nationals activated Bryce Harper from the 10-day disabled list after the outfielder missed 42 games with a knee injury.

Harper started starting in right field and batted second in Tuesday night’s game against the Phillies. He went 0 for 2.

“He’s like a kid on the first day of Little League today,” Washington Manager Dusty Baker said. “He’s excited. We’re excited.”

Harper hyperextended his left knee on Aug. 12.

YANKEES: Reliever Adam Warren, who hasn’t pitched since Sept. 1 because of a lower back spasm, tossed a two-inning simulated game.

METS: Noah Syndergaard is expected to pitch once more this weekend before the regular season concludes. The 25-year-old ace started and threw five pitches in a scoreless inning Saturday against Washington, his first appearance since April 30. Syndergaard, who has recovered from a torn right lat muscle, will throw a bullpen Thursday with the chance to pitch at Philadelphia on Saturday or Sunday.
