OGUNQUIT — The old-fashiioned coin parking meter may soon be officially a thing of the past in Ogunquit.
Following the Labor Day weekend, the town of Ogunquit removed parking meters at Perkins Cove and its lower parking lots and replaced them with electronic kiosks.
The new parking kiosks only accept credit card payments and became operational Sept. 8.
According to a news release from the town, this conversion to credit card payments initiates a trial program in Ogunquit aimed at meeting visitor requests for automated payments.
For a limited time, Visitor Services staffer members will be present in the parking lots to assist visitors with figuring out how to use the new kiosks.
