WINDHAM — Julia McKenna and Hannah Kaplan scored and Kaitlyn Roberts stopped 16 shots to lift Windham to a 2-0 win over South Portland in a Class A South girls’ soccer season opener Saturday.

McKenna scored midway through the first half, as a series of Windham passes culminated with Maggie Lloyd’s cross to McKenna for a shot into the upper left corner.

Kaplan doubled the lead 18 minutes into the second half, converting a Meghan Hoffses pass into the middle of the box.

Maria Buck made eight saves for the Red Riots.

BONNY EAGLE 3, NOBLE 2: Maddy Boothby’s goal 11 minutes into the second half turned out to be the difference as the Scots held off the Knights in Standish.

Bonny Eagle took a 2-1 lead when Hailey Koons popped in a rebound with 10:30 left in the first half, then made it 3-1 on Boothby’s goal.

Maia Clark put in a rebound with 3:05 left, but Noble couldn’t get the equalizer.

Bella Reil gave the Knights a 1-0 lead 3:12 into the game. Emily Byrne tied it for Bonny Eagle.

Sydney Gillingham made seven saves for the Scots, and Raegan Kelly had nine saves for Noble.

SANFORD 6, BIDDEFORD 2: Kara Frasier and Hope Tarbox each scored two goals as the Spartans cruised past the Tigers in a season opener at Sanford.

Abby Toothaker and Julia Allen also scored, and Taylor Ruggerio had an assist for Sanford, which led 2-1 at halftime.

PORTLAND 5, MASSABESIC 1: Annika More scored the first two goals to start the Bulldogs (1-0) on their way to a victory against the Mustangs (0-1) in Waterboro.

Isabella More also scored twice, and Gracie LaGrange connected on 35-yard shot.

TRAIP ACADEMY 3, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Emma Auclair scored two goals as the Rangers won at Hiram.

Kathleen McPherson also scored, and Sydney Auclair and Grace Robillard each recorded an assist.

Kylie Day made 11 saves for Sacopee Valley.

RICHMOND 1, RANGELEY 0: Abby Johnson banged home the rebound of a Caitlin Kendrick shot with just over four minutes remaining in overtime, lifting the Bobcats (1-0) over the Lakers (0-1) in Rangeley.

Sydney Tilton made one save to earn the shutout. Sydney Royce was busier at the other end, recording 12 saves.

BOYS’ SOCCER

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 4, POLAND 1: Adam Canfield scored off a corner kick a minute into the game and the Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead against the Knights in a season opener at Poland.

Goals from Gunnar Gurnis and Max Kummer late in the first half extended Fryeburg’s lead. Noah Hart made it 4-0 five minutes into the second half.

Poland got on the board with 10 minutes left on a goal from Parker Sherburne.

Matt Thebarge made 27 saves for the Knights.

CAPE ELIZABETH 1, FREEPORT 0: Phil Tarling scored midway through the second half off a corner kick from John O’Connor as the Capers won in Cape Elizabeth.

Atticus Patrick made nine saves for Freeport, while Cape keeper Sean Agrondia stopped two shots.

MT. BLUE 4, BRUNSWICK 3: Samuel Smith’s breakaway goal midway through the second half proved decisive as the Cougars (1-0) edged the Dragons (0-1) in Brunswick.

Mt. Blue got goals from Alden Thompson Voight and Dominic Giampietro and an own goal to build a 3-1 halftime lead.

Everett Horch got one back for Brunswick 13 minutes into the second half, but Smith restored the two-goal margin 10 minutes later.

Brunswick got an own goal in the first half, and Kian Murray knocked in a rebound for the final goal with 10 minutes remaining.

TRAIP ACADEMY 3, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Cooper Salema and Frankie Driscoll each scored an unassisted goal and Charlie Driscoll converted a penalty kick as the Rangers (1-0) cruised past the Hawks (0-1) in Hiram.

GARDINER 26, MORSE 6: Patrick Pelletier caught two touchdown passes from Cole Heaberlin to lead the Tigers to a win in Bath.

Gardiner also got touchdown runs from Collin Foye and Cam Michaud and scored on a safety.

Austin Baltazar had a 10-yard touchdown run for Morse.
