Gold/Smith Gallery has announced a new series of mixed media drawings by Boothbay artist John Vander. The Classic Jazz Series is the artist’s newest works on paper featuring energy, colors and themes of the music.
The paintings are a tribute to the music and the musicians of jazz, including Bill Coleman, Thelonius Monk and Sidney Bechet.
Vander has lived in the Boothbay Region since childhood. He now splits his studio time between Maine and Tuscany. In the spring, Vander was honored to have a one man exhibit at the Fondazione Marino Marini in Pistoia, Italy for two months. The show, “I Measure Time By How The Body Sways,” was a series of large format paintings about swing and jazz dancers. This series will be featured at Gold/Smith Gallery in August 2018.
Gold/Smith Gallery will have an opening reception at their gallery Saturday, Sept. 2 from 4-7 p.m. The public is invited to attend, meet Vander.
