ROCKPORT — Police in Rockport have identified a man who apparently died when he failed to negotiate a curve on his bicycle and hit a tree.

David Wayne Allen, 51, of Rockport, was found dead Saturday on Mt. Pleasant Road in Rockport by a nearby resident investigating a foul odor, Rockport police said Wednesday.

“It appears that the deceased failed to negotiate a sharp turn in the road on his bicycle, and struck a tree head-on. We are not sure at this point when the accident occurred,” said Randy Gagne, chief of police for Camden and Rockport.

The accident remains under investigation.
