CORNISH — The Laughing Grass Inn, a three-week event at the Cornish Inn offering cannabis edibles, a happy hour and other marijuana free to paying guests that was scheduled to start today has been canceled.

Organizer Trinity Madison put out the word on The Laughing Grass Inn Facebook page and confirmed the cancellation to the Journal Tribune by telephone on Tuesday afternoon.

She said she and Cornish Inn owner Richard Decourcey had been issued a notice by the town’s Code Enforcement Officer, but was not in possession of the notice and so could not speak to its contents.

Code Enforcement Officer Wes Sunderland said little about the matter, indicating to do so would be premature. But he noted the town’s passage of a prohibition on retail marijuana last week.

Cornish residents on Aug. 9 enacted a prohibition on all forms of retail marijuana. Following that 151-47 vote in favor of prohibition, Madison said the three-week Laughing Grass Inn event would be the sole one in Cornish.

But that plan has changed.

“The event is canceled,” said Madison, who added she would be issuing refunds to those who had booked a stay at the Laughing Grass Inn event.

The 16-room Cornish Inn is a long-time lodging establishment at the edge of Cornish’s picturesque historic downtown district, at 2 High Road.  In an interview two weeks ago, Madison said she was leasing the inn for the stint and that it has a licensed kitchen and is appropriately-zoned.
