The Bowdoin International Music Festival extends heartfelt gratitude its patrons and community partners for making the 2017 season an inspirational musical journey which has enriched the hearts and minds of thousands during the past six music-filled weeks.

Audiences totaling over 15,000 filled venues and classrooms at over 100 concerts and events. With the support of many generous friends, the Festival was able to offer over 80 free public programs, expanding their reach across generations of all ages. Children experienced live music at local libraries and audiences resoundingly applauded stunning performances at Studzinski Recital Hall and in venues from Portland up the coast to Woolwich.

This year the Festival also launched a new live streaming service which broadcasted dozens of free Festival performances to anyone with an internet connection. Local and global audiences were able to access exceptional Young Artists Series performances and thought-provoking

Festival Insights on any internet-connected device. Live Streaming provided world-class chamber music to all music-lovers, regardless of mobility, financial limitations, or time constraints.

Daniel Nitsch, Executive Director for the Festival, said it best. “The inaugural season of Live Streaming has surpassed all expectations. Viewership counts reached over 10,000 as curious fans from all corners of the globe tuned in to witness Festival events. We look forward to investing further in the service, reaching new audiences with even more exciting content in 2018.”

“With the 2017 season now at a close, planning has already begun for next year’s Festival,” said Casey Oakes, Director of Communications. “But before we go forward, we want to take a look back and thank all of our generous patrons for helping to make this a truly special year at the Festival. This year’s students, who represent 23 countries and 30 states, have gladly received your warm Maine welcome. Your enthusiasm for their musical excellence will continue to resonate as they leave the Festival.”
