The Portland Sea Dogs took advantage of wild Bowie Baysox pitching and rallied for an 8-5 win Friday night at Hadlock Field.
Down 5-4, Portland scored four runs in the eighth – on four walks, a hit batter, and Jeremy Barfield’s two-run single.
Josh Ockimey and Jordan Procyshen homered for the Sea Dogs. Ockimey, a first-base prospect, also doubled in a run.
Ryan Flaherty, a Portland native on a rehab assignment from the Baltimore Orioles, played shortstop for Bowie and went 2 for 4 with two singles and a walk. He also made a throwing error.
D.J. Stewart homered for the Baysox.
Dedgar Jimenez, making his third Double-A start for the Sea Dogs, gave up four runs on 10 hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two and left with the score 4-4.
Sea Dogs reliever Jake Cosart (5-2) gave up a Garabez Rosa triple and an RBI double by Stewart in the seventh. Rosa finished 3 for 5.
The Sea Dogs rallied in the eighth when reliever Tim Berry (4-1) walked the bases loaded with one out. Reliever Scott McGough hit Joseph Monge and walked Chad De La Guerra to give Portland a 6-5 lead. Barfield added insurance.
Bobby Poyner, now 6 for 6 in save chances, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with a strikeout to lower his ERA to 0.31. He has 38 strikeouts and five walks in 29 innings.
