SACO — Chuck A. Hale, 67, of Saco, passed away peacefully Friday, July 21, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.  

He was born July 26, 1949 in Portland, the oldest son of Charles A. and Shirley (Adams) Hale.  

Chuck graduated from Portland High School and moved to Boston where he worked for Jordan Marsh before going into the restaurant business.  Chuck moved back to Maine where he unselfishly stepped into the role of Dad to his beloved nephews.  At the same time he managed the Dune Grass Country Club Restaurant.

Chuck was a fiercely independent , generous and compassionate man who did not tolerate prejudice; he was always willing to sacrifice for anyone in need.  He will be remembered for his dry, witty sense of humor.

Chuck resided at the Paul Hazleton House; he was active in many of their events and will be sadly missed by all his friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Robert Hale and sisters Shirley Forsythe and Patty Ann Hale.

He is survived by his sisters Janice Nguyen of Saco, Sher Hale of Biddeford, Norma Loeffler of Saco and Liz Hale of Parsonsfield; brothers    Tommy Echaure of South Portland and Mike Hale of Florida; a dear friend, Sue Tracy of Biddeford; nephews Manuel, Chris, Eddie, and Mario Hale, to whom he had been a guardian angel; and nieces Melissa Mejia, Corinna Echaure, Shirley Lara, and Alita Harriman; and many other nieces and nephews and their children whom he loved dearly.

Visiting Hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.   Burial services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
