BRUNSWICK

Chris Watkinson, a member of Great Schools for Brunswick who helped to campaign successfully to replace the aging Coffin School, has announced he is running for a seat on the town council.

In a Facebook post, Watkinson said he would “do everything possible to prevent the economic pressures from Augusta and beyond from affecting the most vulnerable members of our community — all while ensuring that the most valuable qualities on which our community is founded are able to grow and thrive.”

“The key to future prosperity in Brunswick will be a policy of prudent reductions in discretionary spending, prioritization of increasing local revenue streams, and pushback against policies in the statehouse that have squeezed our local budgets beyond reason,” Watkinson wrote.

The District 5 seat Watkinson is seeking is held by Dan Harris, who was first elected in 2014, having unseated then-incumbent incumbent Gerald Favreau.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story erroneously stated Watkinson was running for the school board for a seat held by Jim

Grant. The Times Record regrets the error.
