The Mustard Seed Bookstore, located at 74 Front St., Bath, has announced that it will host Maine children’s author Chris Van Dusen on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. He will be introducing and signing his newest picture book, “Hattie and Hudson.”
Van Dusen has written and illustrated a number of books for children, including the Mr. Magee series as well as “If I Built a Car,” “If I Built a House,” “Circus Ship” and “King Hugo’s Huge Ego.” He also illustrated the Mercy Watson series and the Leroy Ninker series, both written by Kate DiCamillo, and “President Taft is Stuck in the Bath,” written by Mac Barnett. His newest book, “Hattie and Hudson,” is about a little girl, a huge lake creature, and fear being overcome by compassion and understanding.
Van Dusen grew up in Portland, and attended the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, graduating in 1982 with a BFA. He worked for several years as a freelance illustrator, specializing in art for children. Some of his work appeared in magazines such as Nickelodeon, Family Fun, and Disney Adventures. His first book, “Down to Sea with Mr. Magee” was published in 2000. He and his family currently live in Camden.
