An Associated Press article (“Populists with different priorities,” Page D1, May 6) on their upcoming meeting presents the contrast between President Trump’s positions on many issues and those of Pope Francis.
The pope, of course, humbly tries to emulate Jesus, a bleeding-heart liberal (the original one) who repeatedly urged redistribution of wealth to the poor. The president admires men of a very different sort.
I’ve often thought that the phrase “conservative Christian” is an oxymoron. It is hard to understand how sincere followers of Jesus can adhere to a conservative political philosophy. Maybe someone can help me with this paradox.
