PARIS — Police have charged a man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and burning her clothes.
The Sun Journal reported that Leslie Raymond Everett Jr., 39, of Farmington was charged Saturday with domestic violence assault, eluding an officer and other offenses.
Police say Everett’s ex-girlfriend said she and Everett weren’t getting along. Officials say Everett took her clothes and lit them on fire when he saw she was packing up to leave. Investigators say Everett then hit her in the face.
Authorities say Everett drove away before police responded. Police say Everett was arrested after struggling with police, who used a Taser.
Bail was set at $250 or supervised release, and prohibited Everett from having contact with the woman. Everett’s attorney said he had been a resident of Maine his whole life and wouldn’t be a flight risk.
